Healthy, Safe Trees

Well-pruned desert trees are safer, healthier, and easier to live with

In the Sonoran desert, a tree that's never been properly pruned isn't just overgrown — it's a risk. Fast-growing palo verde and mesquite put on heavy, top-loaded canopies and weak, crowded branch unions, and when the first monsoon storm rolls through Tucson, those are exactly the limbs that split, tear bark, or come down on a roof, fence, or car. Low branches block walkways and driveways, dead fronds turn palms into fire and pack-rat habitat, and an untrimmed tree slowly loses the shape and shade that made you want it in the first place.

McBride takes that off your hands. We make proper, species-correct cuts that protect each tree's long-term health, thin and lighten canopies ahead of monsoon season so wind passes through instead of tearing limbs off, and shape your trees so they look balanced and intentional. Then we clean up completely — no piles left behind, no stumps catching the mower. One crew, one call, and your yard is ready to enjoy again.

What We Do

Complete tree, palm & cactus care for Tucson homes

From a single overgrown tree to a full yard of desert plantings, McBride handles the whole scope of residential tree work — trimming, removals, stump grinding, palms, and saguaro — all done desert-correct and all hauled away clean.

Trimming & Pruning

Tree Trimming & Crown Thinning

We trim, prune, and thin the crown so your trees stay open, balanced, and structurally sound. Lightening dense canopies lets monsoon wind pass through and keeps fast-growing palo verde and mesquite from becoming top-heavy and storm-prone.

Removals

Tree & Large-Shrub Removal

Dead, dying, hazardous, or simply unwanted trees and oversized shrubs come out safely — including those crowded against the house, block walls, pools, and fences. We protect your hardscape and surrounding plants the entire time.

Stumps

Stump Grinding & Full Removal

After a removal we grind the stump well below grade so it won't sucker, trip anyone, or catch your mower. Need it gone completely? We can fully remove the stump and roots so the spot is ready to replant or pave.

Palms

Palm Trimming & Skinning

We remove dead fronds and seed pods, clean up fire- and pest-prone debris, and skin palm trunks for a smooth, professional finish. Proper palm work keeps these signature Tucson trees tidy, safe, and looking sharp year-round.

Saguaro & Cactus

Saguaro & Cactus Removal & Relocation

Saguaro, ocotillo, prickly pear, cholla, and agave all need careful, experienced handling. We remove, relocate, and clean up Sonoran desert cacti correctly — and in line with Arizona's native-plant rules for protected saguaro.

Storm & Deadwood

Deadwooding, Staking & Storm Cleanup

We pull out dead, weak, and crossing limbs, stake leaning or newly planted trees, and respond after monsoon storms drop branches. Hazards get cleared fast so your yard is safe and back to normal.

Brush Clearing

Brush Clearing & Haul-Away

Overgrown brush, volunteer mesquite, and tangled growth get cleared back for defensible space, access, and a cleaner look. Every branch, frond, and clipping is hauled away — nothing is left for you to deal with.

Shaping & Health

Shaping for Health, Safety & Curb Appeal

Beyond a single cut, we shape your trees so they grow strong, stay clear of the house, and frame your home the way you pictured. Healthy structure now means fewer problems — and a better-looking yard — for years.

Desert Species

The desert trees & cactus we care for

Caring for trees in Tucson is not the same as caring for trees anywhere else. Sonoran desert species grow fast, branch unpredictably, and have their own quirks — palo verde and mesquite over-extend and split, eucalyptus drops big limbs, palms hide debris and pests, and saguaro can't simply be cut like a tree. Pruning them the way a generic tree service might do back East often does more harm than good.

Our crews have spent decades working with exactly these plants. We know how each one should be cut, when it should be trimmed, and how to keep it healthy through the heat, the drought, and the monsoon. That experience is the difference between a tree that thrives and one that struggles after a bad pruning.

  • Palo verde — thinned and lightened so heavy, fast growth doesn't split in monsoon wind
  • Mesquite — structurally pruned to control sprawl and build strong branch unions
  • Ironwood & acacia — carefully shaped slow-growers, pruned to protect their dense wood
  • Eucalyptus — deadwooded and thinned to reduce the big-limb drop these trees are known for
  • Palms — trimmed, skinned, and cleared of pods, dead fronds, and pest habitat
  • Saguaro & cactus — removed or relocated with the care these protected, high-value plants require

Common Questions

Tucson tree service questions, answered

When should I trim my desert trees?

For most Sonoran desert trees, late spring into early summer — before the monsoon — is ideal. Thinning and lightening palo verde, mesquite, and other fast-growers ahead of the storms is the single best way to prevent limb failure. We can also handle light corrective pruning and deadwooding year-round.

Can you remove a saguaro? Aren't they protected?

Yes — saguaro and other native cacti are protected under Arizona law, which is exactly why you want an experienced crew. We remove and relocate saguaro and other Sonoran cacti correctly and in line with native-plant rules, so it's done right and done legally.

Do you grind the stump after removal?

We do. After taking a tree out we grind the stump well below grade so it won't sprout, trip anyone, or catch your mower. If you want it gone entirely, we can fully remove the stump and roots so the area is ready to replant or pave.

Do you haul everything away?

Always. Full haul-away and cleanup are part of every job — branches, fronds, brush, and grindings all go with us. We rake the area and leave your yard clean and ready to use, never with a pile waiting for you to deal with.
